Maps and Journeys - Second Idea Production

Due to our idea changing it meant we had to come up with a new synopsis and treatment, thankfully there wasn't too much difference from the original idea and it was more a form of progression. We took away the ideas that wouldn't work and replaced them with a new way, this is where the original three challenges on set dates changed to loads of quests anyone could do at anytime. This also meant we wouldn't have to be with the people taking part in the quests at all times, resulting in us being able to focus on advertising the event more than we were before.

Synopsis

We want to provide an event spanning across three months, which includes a variety of different quests involving teams or solo students of UCA. These quests will be received and seen, on a website designed and created purposely for the event itself. Some of the quests set are based around experiences that you would have in your first year of University; some allow the students to explore Farnham in a fun and easy way; and some are to allow the students to express their creative side. The competitors will be encouraged to use social media, and a hash tag created for the event and each of the quests to show their process throughout, this will also mean we have evidence that they have completed the task. When the project comes out of prototype stage we would like to advertise the event to the SU, this would mean we would be able to provide better and varied prizes and advertise towards the Freshers who are our target audience.

Treatment

We want to provide an event spanning across three months, which includes a variety of different quests involving teams or solo students of UCA. These quests will be received and seen, on a website designed and created purposely for the event itself. Some of the quests set are based around experiences that you would have in your first year of University; some allow the students to explore Farnham in a fun and easy way; and some are to allow the students to express their creative side. There are a large variety of quests available to do, a few examples being:
  • LIDL Challenge - This quest involves going down to the local LIDL store and purchasing 3 different items for under £3, however if they manage to buy 3 different items for under 75p they can earn bonus points. This provides the students with an experience normally found at University, and that would be budgeting.
  • King of the Castle - This quest makes the students travel up to Farnham Castle, where they are then informed that they need to take a photo or selfie on the castle grounds. However if they are able to get a Burger King crown and take a photo with that on they earn bonus points. This allows the student to explore Farnham a bit more and become aware of their surroundings, especially as Farnham Castle is a big attraction.
  • North Downs Montage - This quests requires the students to travel 5 miles of the North Downs Way and create a video montage/sequence throughout the journey, the bonus points were earned by making the video look professional. This provides the students with a chance to show everyone their creative side, and not just doing that within a contained photographic form.
We will also be documenting some of the challenges, and the hash tag, so that we can show our work and progress within the project. For the assessment we would like to have a room with screens showing people doing the challenges, and behind the scenes of us making it. Plus have a map of where all the challenges are, and all our plans and tests of the challenges and hints. Also have a projection of the hash tag feed so that we can show all the outcomes of the challenges, and how each of them went for the teams.
