Studio Shoot - Build Workshop #2

Within our second workshop, after learning then Sony EX3 camera, we decided the best idea was to start gathering props for our shoot. This meant going out around the charity shops and asking for video tapes and books, thankfully one charity shop in particular was a blessing.

The Oxfam book store in Farnham told us that they have 15 refuse bags of books per week, this meant that we had free choice of any of the books within those bags and could take them away if we made a donation.

So after getting the books back to the studio we decided to take the next step of action and rip them all up, it was actually quite fun and relieved a lot of stress from several people in our group. Weirdly enough I think it might have actually bonded our group together a little more, it meant we all got to do something together instead of being split up. We also kept some of the books as props, this was mainly because they looked rather old and worked well within our set.

The next thing we had to get a hold of were video tapes which didn't take too long at all, although it did require going around every charity shop in Farnham and the very last one was where they had some. Thankfully Age UK had just chucked out some video tapes that morning, that meant they were still around and they just let us have them.

So once again when we got them back to the studio the fun began again; we grabbed all three of the Blue Planet video tapes in the bag, smashed them open, and ripped out all the tape within. Doing this gave us a sense of how long video tapes actually are, to unravel all of the tape within one video it took around about 10 minutes.

We also placed our one wall on the floor and scraped off all the wallpaper, this is so that we have a blank canvas for the book pages when we come to paste them on. Although we didn't start pasting the pages on due to the room being used on the monday, we did get the wall back up and made sure we had a stable structure this time due to it falling apart when we tried to move it last.
