Innovation and Interference - The Peach Kings & Paul Trillo

This research came because of my love of photography, I want to discover techniques that only stills cameras could do and attempt to do them in a film form. My initial thought about this was double exposure and using that in film, and I found Paul Trillo who has made some interesting and visually stunning videos for the band The Peach Kings.
Initially I was looking into the music video for the song "Be Around" where they use double exposure to take the viewer on a journey. It's like they're using the body as a frame, which I think is wonderful and should be done a lot more because it really gives the visuals a new feel.

Trillo works with the music itself to form an idea:

"My approach to the Peach Kings videos has always been to match the tone and feeling of the song. It sounds simple but it’s something a lot of people overlook. The “Be Around” video doesn’t tell so much of a literal narrative or sync to the lyrics. What I hope it does is evoke the sound in a visual form…
It’s also a sort of extension of my previous work that plays with negative and positive space. The double exposure technique I think works well with the themes in the song since it’s about saying one thing and doing something else. The more truthful thoughts are usually held within and we have trouble letting them out."

The next video I found is for the song "Thieves and Kings", it's one of the most bizarre music videos I've watched and I think thats because it feels like they've stitched the film together. And time the camera moves it's like they go through a series of photographs attached together to move to another location, and even at points they do it with one of the characters.
