The Band
Walk the Moon is admittedly one of my favourite bands, they are an indie rock band from Ohio and create amazing upbeat music that brings joy to many people around the world. They were first known for the song "Anna Sun" which is how I initially got into the band, its a beautiful song that represents youth and became one of the top summer songs in 2011. Recently they released a new single off their upcoming album "Talking is Hard" called "Shut Up and Dance" which has taken the music world by storm. With the song and the music video they bring back the 80's vibe and represent all that Walk the Moon is known for, with their upbeat music and creative videos that really do put smiles on peoples faces.
The Song
Different Colors is a recent single released by Walk the Moon, it is an upbeat and so catchy that I hum it constantly (probably doesn't help that I've listened to it about 100 times over the last couple of weeks). The meaning of the song itself is up to interpretation although Nicholas Petricca (the lead singer of the band) has explained in an interview that the words "different colors" is meant to represent the pride flags and the song was made to support eh LGBTQ community. Petricca also mentioned that the meaning was also to help the racial faction by showing that everyone has different skin colours.Synopsis
Based around the song “Different Colors” by Walk the Moon, I will be creating a video game based music video along with a playable version. It will follow the main theme of nostalgia by using universally known video game platform styles as base for the design, this will also bring a fun and playful feel to the video/game which suits the band and the music. However, as with the song, there will be an underlying theme supporting the LGBTQ community be expressing that we are all the same no matter what. The main character for the game will be the band themselves, I will create 4 mini 8-bit characters that the viewer can choose to play, however for the non-playable game it will just be the lead singer shown. The game itself will be created on Unity, and the parts of the game will be animated afterwards for the non-playable version of the music video. There will also be forms of animation within the background of the game, including rotoscoping and some animation of text within after effects. The non-playable version of the music video will be broadcast onto YouTube, this is because music is the most viewed form of video on the website and is also easily accessible for many people. However the playable game version will be put onto a wix.com website, this is because I find it simple to use, and the non-playable version will have this linked at the end meaning the viewers can access it.
