Happening
- A performance, event or situation meant to be considered art
- Occur anywhere
- Often multidisciplinary
- Active participation of the audience
The term 'Happening' was used less specifically in the 1960's; it meant a gathering for example a meet up, or a party. However the origin of the word was formed in 1957 by Allan Kaprow, who used it to describe the pieces of art at George Segal's farm. 'Happenings' themselves are events that combine painting, poetry, music, dance, and theatre and were live to the audience. Anyone taking part in a 'Happening' was considered an actor, and in more recent terms that can even involve the audience itself.
Modern 'Happenings' are something that have recently become more famous, mainly because they are planned and advertised well to a broad audience. Some examples of modern 'happenings' are; flash mobs, performance art, silent discos, and specific events such as the Zombie walk. These 'happenings' themselves allow the audience to participate and adapt the meaning of the movement, this shows the progress throughout the years from the 1960's to the present.
Some of the more famous modern 'happenings' are as follows:
T-Mobile 'Welcome Home' Flash Mob
Zombie Walk
And the most recent:
EDEKA - Kassensymphonie
